As the new President of the Denturist Association of Ontario (DAO) I feel honoured to have the opportunity to work with this wonderful organization and people. I am looking forward to taking on the challenges and the role which has been bestowed upon me. As a dedicated denturist and graduate from George Brown College in 2000, I have been a member of the DAO Board since April of 2005 as Marketing, Public Awareness, Website and Electronic Media Chair and in May of 2007 I was elected 1st Vice President.
On a personal note I have served my local community by volunteering as the Treasurer for the Stouffville Chamber of Commerce and was also awarded the 2005 Young Entrepreneur of the year award for Stouffville. I am pleased to be part of the family owned and operated Deegan family denture clinics now in it’s 3rd and 4th generation, which has grown since its humble beginnings started by my great grandfather in 1944.
This is a turning point in the history of the Denturist Association of Ontario. Not only has the Board of Directors and staff undergone strategic planning with consultants and put into place the necessary framework to achieve our members’ goals based on surveys conducted; the DAO is in the process of retaining the services of a lobbyist to further expand our scope of practice – resulting in better patient care. We have extended our public awareness advertising campaign in the Good Times magazine for another eleven months through to August 2010.
The 2009 Perfecting Your Practice (PYP) Conference was our biggest and first ever sold out event, in its 11 year history, with over 250 attendees including Denturists from Saskatchewan, Quebec and Alberta. On behalf of the DAO I would like to acknowledge and give a special thank you to our Platinum Sponsor Nobel Biocare, and to our Gold Sponsors Central Dental and Ivoclar. PYP 2010 is tentatively booked in September and will hopefully be in Niagara Falls for the second year. We will be pleased to again extend an invitation not only to member Denturists in Ontario, but also to member Denturists from across Canada and internationally.
I would like to extend a special thank you to the International Federation of Denturists and the National Denturist Association for co-hosting the 6th World Symposium on Denturism in Las Vegas, Nevada, October 13-16, 2009.
